Nightjar Training & Consulting is a Field Guides Association of Southern Africa (FGASA) accredited specialist delivery partner with an in-house Assessor. 


All training can be done on the lodge / reserve premises with existing equipment/vehicles – ensuring efficiency and on-the-job learning in a discreet and professional manner. Training can be done once-off, or on a periodic basis.

Lowveld Birding Trips

Our tailored Lowveld birding trips are designed to help you find those elusive species you've been looking for, whilst enjoying our regional specials as well. Full day & extended birding focused trips can be arranged. Fully guided or hop-on service available. 



Hotspot areas include Mariepskop State Forest, Blyde River Canyon, Kruger National Park, Magoebaskloof etc 



FGASA Exam & Assessment Preparation

Elevate your FGASA exam performance with tailored, one-on-one guidance. Our experienced FGASA assessor offers expert support via Zoom or your preferred platform.

On-Site Guide and Guiding Team Training & Upskilling

  • Head Guide Training – specifically aimed at newly promoted Head or Senior Guides, assisting with staff management and company systems
  • General Knowledge refreshers & workshops - for the whole guiding team
  • “Secret Shopper” experience – giving expert advice on areas to improve and assisting with facilitation of these improvements through training & workshops
  • Guest Relations & communication skills – Including dealing with difficult guests, children & VIP Guests
  • On-going rifle refresher training – Ensuring the guiding teams rifle handling skills are kept sharp and safe
  • On-site Trails mentoring - Logging hours & encounters, with a FGASA Trails Mentor, towards Trails guide qualifications, working around your guides schedule.
  • Game drive etiquette – including approaching game and dangerous animals, ethical guiding, radio procedures etc
  • Legal Requirements– ensuring the guiding team are legally compliant 
  • Photographic skills – to ensure guiding teams are providing lodges with good quality content for social media
